Furi Kuri

Furi Kuri, or Fooly Cooly in the states, is where my love for anime and Japan started. Since its rather short (only 6 episodes!) its a great starter for those who are unfamiliar with anime, hence why its the first series I watched. The way Furi Kuri is animated is a pure work of art, combined with a lot of craziness and humor.

The plot… well, the lack of it makes Furi Kuri so unique. Action, comedy, robots, aliens, even sexual innuedo’s aren’t left out. Not to mention gigantic steam iron’s and awesome guitars being used as if they’re energy guns and swords. The series are made by Studio Gainax, (who also made the Neon Genesis Evangelion series and Toppa Tengen Gurren Lagann) in co-production with Production I.G. (known by Ghost in the Shell, Blood: The Last vampire and various others) and it really shows off both their styles. The animation perfectionists from I.G. and the aliens from Gainax made up a great anime thats better than most long anime’s, and inspired many others.

Having watched Furi Kuri over 5 times now, I highly recommend this anime to whoever hasn’t watched it yet. Its a great anime and you WILL be satisfied.
